About the groomer

Hi, my name is Nikki, owner and operator  of Curbside Pet Spa LLC. I have always had a special fondness for animals and in particular, dogs. As an eighth grader, I volunteered for community service at a pet facility that offered boarding, doggie daycare, training and grooming. Throughout my high school years I worked part-time at the same establishment and was given a full-time position working in the various departments after earning my Animal Care degree from Becker College.

I have been a full-time groomer for  14 years. Your pet will be handled with the utmost care. As a dog owner and pet lover myself, I know the value and love pet owners have who use mobile grooming services and strive to exceed your expectations of the services I provide. I look forward to grooming your pup!

FAQ

What Do You Want to Know?

Home: FAQ

Why does mobile grooming cost more then a shop?

Mobile grooming is a luxury/express service. I come to you and groom your pet straight-through. This is an extra “Express” service for most grooming shops. My service involves experienced professional service, quality products, cage free ( I hand dry only) personalized attention and gentle, loving care. Mobile grooming is not for everyone. Only you can decide if the care, quality and attention are worth the price.

How long does the grooming take?

Every pet is different, it can take anywhere from 1 hour, to up to 3 hours. The pets disposition, coat condition, and what grooming is being done all plays a roll in how long the process will be. I also hand dry rather than cage dry, this process takes longer, but it is part of my personal hands-on care. I take my time and pride myself on giving your pet my undivided attention.

What forms of payment are accepted?

I accept Cash, money transfer via Zelle, Checks, and Credit Cards. If any reason a check bounces you will be charged an extra $25 fee. Payment is do once the grooming has been completed.

What are the requirements for the grooming?

All pets must be up to date with their rabies vaccination. Proof of rabies is needed, you can show proof of it upon my arrival to your house or you can email the information prior to your visit. I will ask you to update your pet's vaccination information as it reaches the expiration date.

First time clients and all returning clients must inform me of any medical conditions or changes in your pet's health. Please note: If your pet is exhibiting any symptoms of being ill such as coughing, sneezing, diarrhea, fever, unusual redness or discharge from eyes, etc. I will ask you to reschedule your appointment until they receive proper clearance from your veterinarian. This is for the safety of your pet and all the other pets I groom.

Why is it important to speak to the groomer about what I would like done during the grooming appointment?

Every owner has different needs and expectations about grooming. Grooming and hairstyles are a matter of personal preference and I do everything to accommodate the owner's preference as long as it does not compromise the health or welfare of their pet. I ask that the owner share all information about any medical conditions and injuries as well as behavioral issues and tendencies your pet has experienced or exhibited when visiting other grooming facilities or veterinarian. My goal is to make their experience a positive one and stress free for both the owner and pet.

What is a "puppy cut"?

"Puppy Cut" is a loosely descriptive term. With most breeds, we maintain the cute puppy look. Most of the time, this means the hair is cut to the same length all over. Many people choose a puppy cut because it is easy to maintain but there is usually a choice of length (to some it means a medium length, while to others its a very short length). I can work with you to choose a length which works best for your dog.

Can I stay with my pet during the grooming?

Unfortunately no, if your pet can see you this usually leads to anxious and restless behavior. When grooming I work with sharp tools and would like to avoid any additional stress or excitement. You are more than welcome to see where your pet will be during the grooming before it starts. If for any reason I may need you, I will call and ask you to come outside.

What happens if my pet is matted?

It would depend on the severity of the matting, that would determine whether I need to give your pet a short haircut or not. While I do my very best to accommodate the owner's preference with their pet's haircut, if a pet is severely matted I will only do what is in the best interest of your pet.
Some tangles and mats that are away from the skin can be brushed out but if the matting is severe and close to the skin then I am risking skin damage and extreme pain for your pet. If the hair can be dematted without causing pain to the dog, it may be possible to save the coat. There will be an additional charge of $30 per half hour. If it is determined that I am unable to de-matt your pet and that the only option is a short haircut I will speak to you first. Your pet will be happier and I will help you with growing their hair back to a length and style you desire.

How often should my pet be groomed?

Frequency of grooming depends on the breed, coat type and length, lifestyle and how much brushing and detangling you do at home between grooming appointments. If your dog has a longer hair style or a coat that tends to get tangled, they should be professionally groomed every 2-4 weeks. A dog with a short hair style or short coat can be groomed every 6-8 weeks.

Do I have to be home when you come to groom my pet?

First time customers must be present for the appointment. This is so I can meet you and your pet, answer any questions, and get detailed grooming instructions. After the first appointment, you do not have to be home. Arrangements can be made so that you can go to work and come home to a freshly groomed pet.

At what age should I start getting my puppy groomed?

It’s never too soon to have your puppy groomed. Grooming early and grooming often will help your puppy become more socialized and tolerant of all of life’s sensations. I suggest getting your puppy groomed to experience the bath, the dryer, and the clippers as soon as they’ve had their second round of puppy booster vaccinations -- usually around 10-12 weeks of age. Puppies may or may not need a hair cut the first time, but should get a bath and a nail trim for the practice! I will slowly introduce grooming to your puppy to teach him that grooming is not something to fear.
